Miriam of Magdala

Of all my icons,  particularly dear to me is this one of Miriam of Magdala, more often known as Mary Magdalene.  Painted for me by Marchela Dimitrova, it reveals Miriam as she was, a holy woman carrying the dish of oil with which she anointed Jesus.  Her gospel The Gospel of Mary Magdalene is listed in my Bookshelf under Worth a Read.  It brings to us a quite unusual understanding of what was said by the Teacher, Jesus.  This is the first verse of the extant.  What does such teaching tell us?

All that is born, all that is created,

all the elements of nature

are interwoven and united with each other.

All that is composed shall be decomposed;

everything returns to its roots;

matter returns to the origins of matter.

Those who have ears, let them hear.

    Sorry it has taken me a while to reply but most of my posts are spam and it has taken me some time to get to you!

    The more I find out about Mary Magdalene the more interested I become. Have you read Cynthia Bourgeault’s “The Meaning of Mary Magdalene? I am part way through it and am enjoying it.
