Some Prayers

The Jesus Prayer used by way of a constant and repeated prayer by Hesychasts of the Orthodox Church, especially on Mount Athos

Lord Jesus Christ

Son of God

Have mercy on me.

This prayer comes from David Cadman’s The King Who Lost His Memory.  It should be said turning to each of the points and then remaining in the centre but raising one’s arms up and below and all around before bringing the hands together in payer.

In the East it is Morning,

The Breath of Life.

Hear our prayer.

In the South it is Noontide,

The Energy of Fire.

Hear our prayer.

In the West it is Evening,

The Waters of Reflection.

Hear our prayer.

In the North it is Darkness,

The Wisdom of the Earth.

Hear our prayer.

And in the Centre,

Is the Great Tree,

Above and Below

And all around.

Divine Mother, Divine Father,

Hear our prayer.

This Buddhist mantra of the bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokiteshvara, is made up of six syllables:

Om maṇipadme hūṃ

It is said to bring great peacefulness.
